The surroundings of W Park are caracterized by human settlements and occupation of various spaces. From this point of view that area in Burkina shows a very stable situation in termes of the spread of old villages and in comparison to other ares. So in Bénin one finds a mixture between areas with slight social dynamic and those with a high amount of interaction between the people, living close to the river Niger. The zone in Niger shows quite an acceleration in social dynamics, where a lerge number of new settlements can be found.
This movement along the border between Niger and Bénin can be easily explained by the availibity of fertile soil and water and the commercial potential of that region. The fast growth of the population results in social and environmental pressure on the natural resources and weakens the habitual authorities and the traditional socio-territorial organisations, so there is a rising number of conflicts between different groups of people and often also with the staffs of W Park.
